“Put it Up to Eleven”: Fun Facts about Speakers
We here at Midwest Speakers just love speakers and other
audio equipment. As one of the best at speaker repair in St Paul,
we have learned a few fun facts about speakers and speaker repair over the
years. Here are a few of our favorites!
- Going to multiple rock concerts will not cause permanent hearing loss, even if you stand right by the speakers. It will, however, cause temporary hearing loss. A rock concert is typically about 140 dB.
- If you hear ringing in your ears, chances are the speakers you are listening to are too loud.
- When you are listening to music, the only part of the speaker system that should be vibrating is the speaker itself. If the box it is in vibrates, that could be a signal you need speaker repair.
- Particle board is more vibration-resistant than real wood.
- If a speaker has blown, this means the cone has completely separated from the coil. The end result is either no sound or a buzz-like sound. Bring the speaker to us for speaker repair!
- Variations in the air pressure in your ear can be caused by sound waves. A really loud sound can build up the air pressure to the point where it causes permanent hearing loss or damage to your ear.
- Most of the speakers on the market these days are what is known as “direct radiating.” This means that all of their sound comes from the front of the speaker and hits the listener’s ear directly.
- Floor-standing speakers reach a lower frequency range than compact speakers.
- Humans cannot hear frequencies that are 20,000 Hz and above, but these frequencies can be heard by animals like dogs and cats.
